Teach them Your ways

July 3, 2019

Isaiah prophesied that…

In the days to come
    the mountain of the Lord’s house
    will be the highest of the mountains.
    It will be lifted above the hills;
        peoples will stream to it.
Many nations will go and say,
“Come, let’s go up to the Lord’s mountain,
    to the house of Jacob’s God
        so that He may teach us His ways
        and we may walk in God’s paths.”
Instruction [Torah] will come from Zion;
    the Lord’s word from Jerusalem.
(Isa 2:2-3, CEB)

This is a wonderful passage to pray through and declare while prayer walking/cycling/driving this summer. Let’s take a closer look at what it’s saying:

  • “Days to come” means “last days.” This prophecy isn’t fully fulfilled yet – that’s motivation to pray.

  • References to peoples “going up” to the house of Jacob’s God and to Jerusalem indicate the verses mean pilgrimage to a geographic location (see also v 1) in addition to having a spiritual level of meaning.
  • Jacob means Israel (Ge 32:28). Jacob’s God is the God of Israel, also known as the God of Abraham, Isaac & Jacob (Ex 3:15), the God of the generations.
  • Some Bible versions say, “For out of Zion shall go the law” (ESV has a footnote for “law” that indicates “teaching”). The Hebrew meaning of the word Torah is a set of instructions from parents to their children, which they’re expected to obey, the purpose of which is to teach them and bring them to maturity (e.g. see Pr 1:8, 3:1 NIV). https://www.ancient-hebrew.org/articles_torah.html.
  • We understand that references to God’s instruction and His word mean Scripture and the Spirit, which reveal God’s final word, Jesus (2 Ti 3:16, Ac 1:8).
  • The exaltation of “the Lord’s mountain” above all others is about the sovereignty and supremacy of the Kingdom of God over all spiritual and earthly governments (e.g. see Jer 51:25).
  • We can pray in agreement with what the Lord has spoken through His prophet (2 Chr 20:20c, Mt 18:19, 2 Pe 1:21).

Let’s declare the word of the Lord with faith:

The Kingdom of God will rule over all governments [name religious systems, human governments].

Peoples [name ethnic groups, Islamic sects, special interest groups] will stream to the Kingdom of God.

Many nations [including Canada, including the House of Islam, including nations currently known as Muslim-majority nations] will come to worship Jacob’s God and seek to be taught by Him (see also Mt 28:19-20, Rev 5:9-10).

Father God will fulfill His promise to bless all families [nations] of the earth through Abraham (Ge 12:3). This will include the younger [Jacob] generation.

They will be taught by the Lord to walk in His paths see also Jer 31:34; Ps 1, 23:3, 119:105; Pr 3:5-6).

Instruction is coming from Zion. Your people will welcome and receive it, become mature and be as one with You so the world will believe in Jesus Christ, King of the Nations (Jn 17:20-21, Eph 4:10-16).
