Hamilton, ON

Quick Facts:

Population: 536.917 (2016 census)

Hamilton is a port city on Lake Ontario situated west of the Greater Toronto Area. It is becoming a part of the GTA as housing prices in Toronto rise and train and bus service improves. Hamilton is divided into an upper city and a lower city across the Niagara Escarpment. It is an amalgamated city so has both urban and rural sections.

Hamilton had the highest number of reported hate crimes in 2018 and protests between anti-immigration and pro-diversity activists have been occurring in front of city hall.

Hamilton has received many refugees and immigrants due to lower housing costs and a welcoming environment. Ministries such as Open Homes Hamilton helps in receiving and settling new immigrants. Micah House is a ministry that houses Asylum Seekers.

According to Salatomatic there are 13 mosques, 7 halal restaurants and one Islamic school. Two of the major mosques in Hamilton are the Mountain Mosque and the Downtown Mosque.

There are 131 churches in Hamilton

Pray:

  1. Please pray for an end to hate crimes in Hamilton as this is creating a lot of anxiety among immigrants and refugees, including Muslims
  2. Pray for ministries such as Open Homes Hamilton and Micah House to be ministries of love and compassion in the name of Jesus.
  3. Pray for churches to embrace their Muslim neighbour and share the gospel of Jesus Christ
  4. Pray for initiatives such as Loving a Mosque Community Together and that churches in Hamilton would commit to praying for their local mosque
  5. The local Loving Muslims Together Network is in need of individuals willing to gather together and pray as well as helping to educate local churches.

About Loving Muslims Together

Loving Muslims Together exists because God’s love, demonstrated through Jesus Christ, is for Muslims. We function as local networks across Canada. We work to connect people and churches to opportunities, training and resources to help them build bridges to their Muslim neighbours, living out God’s love in word and deed.

No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion.

Nelson Mandela

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind. And your neighbor as yourself.
