DAY 25 - April 15 - ISLAMOPHOBIA

April 15, 2023

On January 26, 2023, the Prime Minister announced that Amira Elghawaby had been appointed Canada’s first Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia. In this role she will “support and enhance the federal government’s efforts in the fight against Islamophobia, systemic racism, racial discrimination and religious intolerance”.

At the announcement, the Hon. Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, used the term “anti-Muslim hatred” in place of “Islamophobia”. The definition of Islamophobia in public usage is not very precise. Sometimes when it is used, it shuts down useful discussion about Islam.

  • Pray for Ms Elghawaby and Hon. Hussen to have personal encounters with Jesus and for their hearts to perceive and follow the wisdom of the Holy Spirit as they carry out the trust they’ve been given.
  • Pray that Canada’s laws and practices will reduce hatred and intolerance of people of ALL religions, but not prevent close examination and critique of ALL religions.

About Loving Muslims Together

Loving Muslims Together exists because God’s love, demonstrated through Jesus Christ, is for Muslims. We function as local networks across Canada. We work to connect people and churches to opportunities, training and resources to help them build bridges to their Muslim neighbours, living out God’s love in word and deed.

No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin or his background or his religion.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength and all your mind. And your neighbor as yourself.
