Toronto is the largest city in Canada and the fourth most populous in North America. Located on Lake Ontario it is the largest of the Great Lakes cities, and is the provincial capital of Ontario. In 1998 the current City of Toronto was formed by a merger of six former components namely, Etobicoke, York, North York, East York, Toronto and Scarborough. 

Windsor lies directly across the Detroit River from Detroit, Michigan. It is the southernmost city in Canada and the third largest community in southwestern Ontario after London & Kitchener. The Ambassador Bridge border connecting Detroit and Windsor is the busiest commercial crossing between the US and Canada. Windsor is known as the “Automotive Capital of Canada” and its economy is based primarily on manufacturing, tourism, education and government services. It is home to the University of Windsor and St. Clari College.  

Thunder Bay is the largest city in Northwestern Ontario, an amalgamation of Port Arthur and Fort William in 1970. The symbol of Thunder Bay is a sleeping giant, a geographical formation that is evident from the city.  

The population of Fort McMurray has decreased recently because of the major wildfire in May 2016 and the downturn in activity in the oil sands. Fort McMurray is located at 435 kilometres northeast of Edmonton. It is surrounded by boreal forest and is in the middle of the Athabasca oil sands. It is situated in the Wood Buffalo Municipality which has a population of around 112,000. Of that population approximately 75% are permanent citizens, while 25% are classified as shadow residents, living in temporary accommodations for more than 30 days a year, but not permanent citizens. A number of new Canadians have settled in the area to work.

Montreal is Canada’s second-largest city and the largest in the province of Quebec. It is also the second-largest French speaking city (behind Paris) in the world. Although Montreal is an island its area is three times as large as Vancouver. While the city’s official language is French, 23% of its citizens speak English. Due to an emphasis on seeking francophone immigrants, the largest immigrant populations over the last ten years are from North Africa—French speaking countries that are overwhelmingly Muslim.  

Mississauga was formed in 1974 and is home to Toronto Pearson International Airport, Canada's largest airport. It has been recognized as the safest city in Canada 9 years in a row.  Mississauga offers family-oriented sports, leisure, & arts facilities with 11 community centres and a vibrant downtown city centre, home to 55,000 registered businesses employing more than 425,000. It has many parks and trail systems including part of a waterfront trail running from Niagara-on-the-Lake to the Quebec border.  

Whitehorse is the capital and only sizeable city of Yukon. The territory’s economy is based primarily around mining and tourism. The Northwest territories, with Yellowknife as  the capital, is the most populous of the territories. The economy is based primarily around mining and tourism. It is home to the most northern mosque in the world in Inuvik. The newest, largest, and most northerly of the territories, Nunavut, has Iqaluit as its capital. Its economy is based on mining, energy and transportation.

Milton is a city on the edge of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) about 40 kms from Downtown Toronto on Highway 401. It is a fast-growing community. From 2001-2011 it was Canada’s fastest growing municipality. Much of the growth is extending into suburbs around old Milton. Milton is part of the Halton Region.  

Edmonton is the capital city of Alberta. It is an important cultural and educational centre, the second largest urban centre in the province behind Calgary. It is often referred to as the Gateway City to the North. It is well-known for its West Edmonton Mall, one of the largest malls in North America (it was the largest from 1981 until 2004).
