Something incredible is happening within the Muslim world. Muslims abroad and in Canada are confessing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in an unprecedented way. "There are nine geo-cultural 'rooms' in the 'House of Islam,' and the Wind of God's Spirit is blowing through every one of them" (David Garrison, author of ‘A Wind in the House of Islam’).

From September 2024 until June of 2025 we will be exploring the presence of people from the ‘9 rooms’ in Canada—where they are, who’s ministering among them, and what we can learn as we engage with them.*

This month we invite you to pray for the room of EAST AFRICA. 

  • East Africans in Canada: 238,600

  • Muslims from East Africa in Canada: 95,940 

  • 40% of East Africans in Canada are Muslims

  • 60% of the East African Muslims in Canada are from Somalia (57,645)

  • 42% of the East African Muslims in Canada live in Toronto

  • 15% of the East African Muslims in Canada live in Edmonton

  • The Muslim diaspora in Canda from East Africa (top six countries by highest population): Somalia, Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanazia, Eritrea, Kenya. 

PRAYER POINTS

Let's pray for the Somalis and Somali Bantu Muslims in Toronto and Edmonton. 

City: Toronto / Population: 23,860 / Highest Concentration City: Etobicoke

City: Edmonton / Population: 11,270 / Highest Concentration City: Alberta is home to the largest Somali-Canadian population outside Southern Ontario. In Edmonton, they make up the largest African community in the city.

  • Lord, help existing Christians become more aware of Somalis in their community. Help Christians overcome fear, self-interest, and negative thoughts toward Somalis.
  • Pray for trusting relationships and friendship between followers of Jesus and Somalis.
  • Pray for followers of Jesus to open their homes in a ministry of hospitality and safety for Somalis. 
  • Pray that Somali disciples be made so that Somali church communities can be developed in Toronto and Edmonton. 
  • Pray for the Somali believers living in the GTA & Edmonton that they will be faithful disciples and witnesses to their extended families & community.
