NETWORK LIFE

December 2, 2022

Christmas presents a unique opportunity to include our Muslim friends and neighbours in our celebration of Jesus Christ's birth.

Here are some simple ideas that we collected from Network leaders accross Canada that we hope encourage you:

  • Christmas celebration at a local church

Invite your Muslim friend to a Christmas celebration at your home church, or a church in the area that is offering a biblically-based presentation/celebration of Christmas.

  • Advent dinners (with halal turkeys)

Advent provides a powerful way to discuss Christmas and the gospel – and get the Muslim kids involved – it’s been amazing. Often, we will buy about a dozen halal turkeys and give them to families at our church who want to invite a Muslim family for a holiday dinner

  • Deliver gifts to many Muslim friends

This year we are delivering about 20 pointsettas, with an explanation of what pointsettas represent – and a simple gospel message.

  • End of the year ESL classes

We are finishing up our ESL classes with a potluck and a short talk about what Christmas is all about.  We will also have our classes over for a meal.

  • Family Christmas Party

Our ministry reaches out to 10-12 Syrian families. This year we are running a family Christmas Party. It will feature games, tea/coffee and dessert - no main meal as it has always been difficult to please everyone. We will have some Carols presented/sung by a father/daughter duo. Kids will go off to a separate program for 45 minutes leaving the adults to have a 12- 15 minute Christmas presentation followed by Alpha type discussion groups - 3 groups (men, women and teens) led by a facilitator and 2-3 team supporters. These groups always end in asking for prayer requests followed by prayer. The kids program will be re-enacting the Christmas story. We will wind up with Christmas gifts of poinsettias for the ladies, a carved Christmas tree for the men, a Tim's voucher for the teens and children's toys for the kids. Our budget has been shared between two churches and one individual gift.
