Prepare for Ramadan

In a few weeks, almost a quarter of the world’s population, and about 1 in 20 Canadians will begin the month of Ramadan. Beginning the evening of March 10 and continuing until sundown April 8, this month will be a central focus for the Muslim community.

As Christ-followers, I hope it will also be a focus for us:

• A focus on praying persistently for our Muslim friends and neighbours.
• A focus on offering (and receiving!) hospitality as each day’s fasting ends with a shared meal.
• A focus on encouraging other Christians to learn and grow in their understanding of the beliefs and needs of the Muslim community in Canada.
• A focus on asking thoughtful questions and provoking wondering in your Muslim friends, even as the days of Ramadan tick by.

To help you prepare I encourage you to:

• Check out the Ramadan blog, written and updated each year by Cristina Boersma, full of information and resources.
• Check out the LMT prayer guide for Muslims in Canada—and help us spread the word about this resource in your networks.
• Plan a prayer gathering—maybe on Friday, April 5, the Muslim Night of Power; maybe another time.
• Join an LMT online prayer gathering each Friday during the month.

Let’s stand in prayerful unity with the global Church that this year many more will become disciples of Jesus Christ, and become our brothers and sisters!
